Gertrude Ward was a song evangelist. She is known in popular culture as member and manager of the gospel group, The Ward Singers, with her daughters, Clara and Willa, and sometimes other members of the family and friends. Their popularity broke race barriers include the first performance by African-American musicians at the Philadelphia Academy of Music in 1967.
